TNBC boosts efficiency with PlayBox Technology’s Channel in a Box
London, UK, 18/05/21 – PlayBox Technology, the leading channel in a box provider for media companies worldwide, has implemented on-air channels for Thai broadcaster TNBC. The integrated playout system was supplied and installed by PlayBox partner UBN Network Co. in Bangkok.
TNBC provides multiple subscription services which are on air 24/7. The level of output was demanding an uneconomic level of staffing, and so the company looked for an automated, simple but extremely reliable playout software platform, and selected the Channel in a Box from PlayBox Technology. In this first instance this is delivering two of its main channels.
“The PlayBox technology and its automated, integrated playout greatly reduces the amount of equipment required for on-air channels,” said Sawiss Viacharnarong of UBN Network Co.. “That means they need fewer operators, less power consumption, less air conditioning and simpler operations. That means big savings and a more reliable broadcast service.”
With more than 15 years’ experience in developing playout solutions, PlayBox has now developed a highly advanced playout engine, capable of serving multiple outputs and operating in an SDI, IP or hybrid environment, at resolutions up to 4k Ultra HD. It provides a fully redundant playout service, including the control of third party equipment such as routers and master control switchers.
The software includes scheduling as well as sophisticated automation for playout control. Graphics can be created within the Channel in a Box environment, via a simple, clean and engaging HTML5 user interface. Integrated SRT and FTP applications allow seamless automated content ingest, and playout is to SDI or to IP streams.
“At PlayBox, we have long demonstrated that integrated playout delivers real economic benefits at every level, from operators to rack space and power,” said Philip Neighbour, COO at PlayBox Technology. “TNBC is just the latest broadcaster to recognise that they can have both high-availability broadcast and low operating costs by using our Channel in a Box platform.”
