PBC Jamaica adds two more channels with PlayBox
London, UK, 02/02/22 – PlayBox Technology UK, the leading channel in a box provider for media companies worldwide, has delivered two more Channel in a Box systems to PBC Jamaica, the public broadcasting service in Jamaica. This will allow PBCJ to boost its educational offering within the local Jamaican population.
PBCJ’s aim is to inspire positive change in the community through its programming. It provides a platform for debate and discussion, as well as free expression of the culture of the island. It is also responsible for coverage of debates in the Jamaican parliament.
The station broadcasts its main channel 24 hours a day from an existing PlayBox integrated playout platform. This gave PBCJ a highly automated environment, with the ability to manually control live events when required. The new installation adds the capacity for two more output streams alongside the main channel.
“We have relied upon PlayBox for our playout automation for some time now,” said Maurice Marshall, technical operations manager at PBC Jamaica. “We had the chance to increase our output, to find new ways to reach and inspire our audience, and I had no hesitation in going back to PlayBox for the additional capacity. They delivered the new outputs, and provided the integration to ensure that all our channels can be controlled together.”
PlayBox Technology delivers more than 20,000 master content streams every day, from news and entertainment to civic and faith services. Drawing on its 15 years of experience of innovation in channel in a box systems, it has developed a highly advanced playout engine, capable of serving multiple channels and platforms at resolutions up to 4k Ultra HD.
The turnkey solution includes content servers, scheduling and graphics tools. Operationally, all functionality is accessed through intuitive and tailored user interfaces implemented in HTML5.
“From the very beginnings of broadcasting, a century ago, education and information was always a key goal for radio and television,” said Phillip Neighbour, COO at PlayBox Technology. “We are proud to play our part in educational streaming and broadcasting, and further pleased that PBC Jamaica has recognised our commitment and returned to us for extended capacity.”
