US State Broadcaster upgrades to PlayBox Channel in a Box
London, UK, 07/06/21 – PlayBox Technology, the leading channel in a box provider for media companies worldwide, has completed an order for the broadcast service of an American state government channel. The service provides live and VoD streams of government business.
This is a particularly challenging application. The streaming service is central to a modern democracy, providing all voters with immediate access to the deliberations of their elected representatives. PlayBox Technology provided an integrated playout for the state television service.
“The customer needed very high reliability, combined with low user interaction and engineering requirements,” said Steve Finer of Finer Associates, the systems integrator that negotiated and completed the contract. “Drawing on examples of installations around the world, we were able to demonstrate that the PlayBox Channel in a Box system not only met their operational and technical requirements, but it did so at a cost-effective price point, representing a very good investment for the public service.”
Ideal for installations like this, where it is required to provide sophisticated playout in a largely unattended operation, the PlayBox Channel in a Box draws on the company’s 15 years’ experience in the industry. In this application the integrated playout system dropped into an existing HD-SDI architecture, but it is equally capable of working in IP and hybrid environments, and at resolutions up to 4k Ultra HD.
The software includes scheduling as well as sophisticated automation for playout control. Graphics can be created within the Channel in a Box environment, via a simple, clean and engaging HTML5 user interface. In this application it allowed for simple automated identification of speakers.
“This is a prestigious project for a major governmental user,” said Philip Neighbour, COO at PlayBox Technology UK. “It is a resounding vote of confidence in our approach, delivering secure, reliable and simple operations within a tight budget.”
