PlayBox multilingual playout for IKO Mediagroup

Monday, June 16, 2008

IKO Mediagroup, has chosen a solution from PlayBox Technology to playout its Sport Klub + and DOQ TV channels to a multilingual audience. For wide appeal, the playout provides audiences of both channels with the option to choose the language of the audio and of the subtitles.
The viewers can choose the audio commentary and the subtitle language to be Serbian, Slovenian and Croatian. The Sport Klub + channel focuses on broadcasting live sports events to its audience of sports fans and DOQ is a documentary channel. The two very different services require different workflows. For Sports Klub + the three audio streams and the video are received via satellite and the SDI outputs of four satellite receivers Tandberg  are ingested by four PlayBox CaptureBox streaming servers that output MPEG2 Transport Stream. For DOQ, the documentaries are ingested from videotapes and DVDs that provide an SDI input to a single CaptureBox.
The two channels have separate playout workflows but they are much the same. They each have two PlayBox AirBox streaming servers with one on air and the other providing a full backup. The AirBox MPEG2 TS output, comprising the video and audio in three languages, is input to the DVB mutliplexer where three subtitle streams from PlayBox Subtitle Plus DVB Server is added to make the complete tri-lingual channel stream.
