PlayBox Technology Powers Four New Channels at UVM

Thursday, April 26, 2012

PlayBox Technology servers are now providing playout and branding at four channels owned by the Una Vez Mas Television Group. UVM, the largest Azteca America affiliate in the US with 33 O&O stations, has the new servers on air at KHDF Las Vegas, KPDF Phoenix, WUVM Atlanta and KVDF San Antonio.

Each of the channels includes AirBox PRO for playout and automation and with TitleBox providing live on-air 3D CG and graphics. The offline scheduling of programmes takes place in ListBox. All the new PlayBox Technology equipment is currently running at SD but is also ready for HD operation.

Reasons cited for the choice of playout solution from PlayBox Technology included its cost-effectiveness as a Channel-in-Box solution for unmanned operational environments. The ease of use was also mentioned. Jorge L Arredondo, VP of Operations, Una Vez Mas, LP Broadcast Group gives more detail. “After a year of careful research and tests, we chose the PlayBox Technology Channel-in-a-Box solution because it integrates and customizes easily with our diverse station environments: manned, unmanned, at the studio or next to the transmitter with limited space situations. Commercial spots, long forms, live and recorded programmes are triggered by Network’s cue tones, by time or by events.

“The same servers can be moved from a decentralized, which is our existing model, to a centralized, central-casting, Master Control operation. The conversion of logs from our OSi traffic system was easy and reliable. MCR operators can feel they are operating a full automation system. PlayBox Technology satisfies our highly demanding advertisers that require a quick turnaround as well as changes on the fly. Servers can be accessed remotely from anywhere with internet access – even from smartphones; we’ve been able to resolve conflicts and recover missed spots immediately, avoiding revenue loss.”

AirBox PRO offers additional features beyond the standard AirBox playout capabilities. These include, GPI interface with GPI-compliant devices via the standard PC serial ports, matrix switcher control of their input/output configuration via RS-232 or LAN, LTC timecode input for triggering playout, DTMF reader for triggering commercial insertion, MPEG2 live input stream support in the playlist, TitleBox Net Control of TitleBox on the same, or on remote, PCs and video scaling for picture-in-picture with TitleBox, for CG layouts.
