PlayBox Technology AirBox Powers Trans TV

Indonesian national television broadcaster Trans TV has expanded the production resources at its Jakarta transmission centre with a PlayBox Technology Channel-in-a-Box ingest and playout system.

"Trans TV came to us with an interesting challenge," says Stefanus Tandra, PlayBox Technology regional sales manager for Indonesia. "The country stretches across three time zones: Western, Central and Eastern. The network's Jakarta headquarters are in the Western time zone but government regulations require that each city in Indonesia must reflect the times of various religious observances during the course of each day. In partnership with our Indonesian reseller, PT Horizzon Global Media, we have provided a solution based on the PlayBox Technology AirBox broadcast scheduling and playout system plus a CaptureBox PRO ingest server. This combination provides the resources needed to deliver inserts appropriate to each time zone, including the ability to ingest a live source from Jakarta and play this to air while ingest is still in progress. The duration required for each clip is about three minutes. The system is physically compact and integrated easily into Trans TV's existing infrastructure. It has proved easy to operate and is working well."

The PlayBox Technology CaptureBox PRO allows multiple channels of high-definition or standard-definition content to be captured from SDI digital feeds, analogue sources and MPEG transport streams. Four video sources can be monitored on a single screen and controlled via a new streamlined user interface. Audio levels can be viewed as loudness/true-peak displays and adjusted when required. Content ingested to CaptureBox PRO is available for playback within a few seconds of capture commencing.

Designed to allow live or automated content playout, AirBox can be programmed locally or remotely. It is capable of operating unattended 24/7. An integral graphics mixer allows video rotation effects and depth-order laying effects to be performed in real time. Logo animation facilities are also provided for use in titling, captioning or channel branding.
