Thursday, April 26, 2012

PlayBox Technology will have a big presence at this year’s Eurovision Song Contest. The biggest such contest to date will take place between the 22nd and 26th May 2012 in Baku, Azerbaijan and is hosted by Ictimai TV, part of the Azerbaijan’s Public Television and Radio Broadcasting Company.

Although the live production will be produced by Eurovision itself, one of the requirements of Ictimai TV was to have a tapeless automation and an archive system. After thorough evaluation by Ictimai TV they decided on a combination of PlayBox Technology automation and MAM systems.

The PlayBox MAM system has mirrored database and application servers and comprises of an archive that includes a fully redundant and mirrored 120+120 TB storage for up to 20 clients. For Ingest there are two CaptureBox servers and for playout there are two fully redundant AirBox servers, both with TitleBox for interactive CG and Graphics. Multi AirBox Manager is included to provide the remote AirBox management of multiple playout servers and channels. Multi AirBox Manager is a web based server that allows all, or specific, AirBox channels to be securely monitored, managed and controlled via a standard HTML browser.

The media format used will be 50Mbit XDCAM HD that is native to the XDCAM cameras used in the production. The system will be in action during the live transmissions of the semi-finals and the finals programmes that are transmitted across the whole of Europe and watched by a huge audience. After that, the PlayBox Technology system will then will become the main automation and playout system at Ictimai TV.
