One of Romania’s leading media organisations, Realitatea Media Group, is using a range of PlayBox Technology playout solutions to power expansion of its TV channels. Realitatea TV, The Money Channel and TV Romantica are distributed by cable operators in Romania and Moldova and available via the Digi TV DTH platform in Serbia in the Romanian language, SKY TV and 3G, reaching over 10 million households across the countries.
Realitatea TV channel started using a PlayBox playout solution in 2004. In 2006 the Money Channel also commenced using PlayBox Technology. Taking further advantage of the expandable structure of Playbox solutions, the latest channel, TV Romantica, is now also on air with PlayBox.
PlayBox solutions are scalable allowing users to grow capacity as demand dictates with low incremental costs. The expanded workflow for TV Romantica includes two fully redundant AirBox playout servers. CaptureBox provides Ingest and can control related external devices like switchers, routers, VTRs etc. Media storage is supplied by a PlayBox Technology-manufactured 8TB NAS offering over 1,500 hours of MPEG-2 storage. ListBox is used for creating and editing schedules that may be many days or weeks in advance.
Realitatea TV was the first Romanian News network, started in 2001. It uses a fully integrated and redundant AirBox playout server for news programmes which, along with eight other PlayBox modules, provides on-air reliability and extensive automation. It began providing general entertainment and, in 2002, became the first 24-hour Romanian news channel. Since 2003 it has been the local broadcasting partner of CNN, training its journalists through the CNN IPP (International Professional Program). Realitatea TV has won four APTR (the Romanian Association of Television Professionals) awards in the last two years. These include awards for "Best Talk-show", "Opera Prima" for best new TV format, and two "Best Informative Broadcast".
The Money Channel, the first business channel in Romania, has been on-air more than a year. It uses two AirBoxes for playout and broadcasts financial information including news from the Romanian Stock Exchange as well as a variety of economic and political news.
