KMTV is the first international TV network that focuses on Korean pop music and drama. It provides an array of the latest top quality entertainment programming from Korea with all the favourite K-pop stars. The channel has recently embarked on an expansion programme to establish its presence in more countries in Asia, and involving playout solutions from PlayBox Technology.
KMTV originates in Korea as a 24-hour Korean music and entertainment television network. It is now also available in Hong Kong, Taiwan, China and Australia. Later this year the channel will be launched in more Southeast Asian countries including Indonesia, Thailand and Malaysia.
As a part of the expansion PlayBox Technology has supplied three HD AirBox playout servers which KMTV has co-located at the platform partners’ in Thailand, Taiwan and Singapore. Each server includes SubtitleBox for the automatic burn-in of subtitles and RAID 1 (mirrored) storage protection. New content is either ingested via the internet or by using a plug-in hard drive. Playlists and any prepared subtitle files are also delivered to the servers. The platform partners take the live signal directly from the HDSDI output of the AirBox playout servers. Currently, there is one SD signal distributed in Australia market. Later this year there will be another SD signal going live into Singapore and one HD signal going live in Taiwan.
As a relatively new channel, KMTV decided to go for an IP-based distribution solution from launch. They find that “PlayBox Technology provides us with a user-friendly, cost-efficient and reliable solution that is working well and meets our requirements.”
KMTV also reports, “The support has been good from the start. The PlayBox technology Asian sales team is highly flexible, as well as supportive, and its technical team has been working very well with ours. We also appreciate the good training and technical support, especially the online problem solving communications; it’s fast and efficient.”
